Privacyscherm, also known as a privacy screen or privacy filter, is a display accessory designed to limit the viewing angle of a screen so that content is readable only by someone directly in front of it. It is commonly used to prevent shoulder surfing in public or shared workspaces and to protect sensitive information from prying eyes, supporting privacy and security objectives in offices, healthcare settings, and finance sectors.

Most privacy screens are physical filters that attach to desktops or laptops. They use a micro-louver or similar shading technology to narrow the horizontal viewing angle, typically to around 30–60 degrees depending on the product. The filters can be adhesive, clip-on, or magnetically mounted, and may come as standalone sheets or as built-in features on some monitors. In addition to hardware filters, some software solutions offer privacy modes that darken or blur content when viewed from the sides, though they do not physically block viewing.

Benefits of privacy screens include reduced risk of visual data leakage, improved privacy in public spaces, and easier compliance with data-protection policies. Drawbacks include reduced screen brightness and color accuracy, noticeable dimming in bright environments, and potential interference with cameras or other sensors on certain devices.
