Priorisoiminen, which translates to prioritization in English, is the process of determining the order of tasks, projects, or activities based on their importance, urgency, or value. It is a fundamental skill in time management and productivity, enabling individuals and organizations to focus their limited resources on what matters most. The core idea behind prioritization is to distinguish between what is essential and what is merely desirable, and then to allocate time and effort accordingly.

Effective prioritization often involves evaluating several factors. Urgency refers to how soon a task needs to be completed, while importance relates to its impact on achieving long-term goals or overall objectives. Value can be measured in terms of the benefits or outcomes a task will yield. Various methods exist to aid in prioritization, such as the Eisenhower Matrix, which categorizes tasks into four quadrants: urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, and neither urgent nor important. Another approach is the MoSCoW method, commonly used in project management, which categorizes requirements as Must have, Should have, Could have, and Won't have.
