The modeling process includes specifying variables and relations, estimating parameters from data, and validating the model against new data. The resulting models support analysis, scenario planning, and evidence-based decision making, for example in selecting training interventions, setting performance targets, or scheduling workloads.

Common approaches include:

- Statistical models such as linear or mixed-effects regression to quantify how factors influence performance.
