Preposttutkimusten

Preposttutkimusten is a Finnish term that translates to "pre-post studies" or "pre-post testing" in English. This research methodology involves measuring a particular outcome or variable before an intervention or treatment is applied and then measuring the same variable again after the intervention has been completed. The core principle is to establish a baseline measurement against which changes can be compared.

The purpose of a pre-post study is to assess the impact or effectiveness of the intervention. By comparing the pre-intervention data to the post-intervention data, researchers can determine if there has been a statistically significant change. This type of study design is commonly used in various fields, including education, healthcare, psychology, and social sciences, to evaluate the efficacy of new teaching methods, therapeutic interventions, or policy changes.

While pre-post studies are relatively straightforward to implement, they have limitations. They do not definitively prove causation because other factors, known as confounding variables, might have influenced the outcome between the pre and post measurements. For example, natural maturation, external events, or other concurrent interventions could be responsible for observed changes. To strengthen causal inference, pre-post studies are often enhanced with control groups or more complex experimental designs.
