Positionsexperiment

Positionsexperiment is a neologism formed by joining "position" and "experiment." It is not a formally defined term in most scientific literatures, but appears in online writings and some multidisciplinary contexts to describe a research approach that tests how different spatial positions affect outcomes. The concept spans several fields, including physics and engineering (calibrating position-dependent signals), neuroscience and psychology (how body posture or orientation influences perception, attention, or reaction time), ergonomics and human factors (how seating and reach affect performance), and robotics or computer vision (varying object or end-effector positions to evaluate control algorithms).

In typical usage, a positionsexperiment treats position as the principal independent variable. Researchers specify a set of positions or a continuous range, include a baseline, and measure dependent variables such as accuracy, latency, force, or sensor readings. Experimental control emphasizes consistent environment, instructions, and timing to reduce confounds. Replication and randomization are common, with statistical methods chosen to fit the design.

Because the term lacks a single canonical definition, explicit description of the position variable, measurement methods, and analysis is essential for interpretability. The term should not replace domain-specific terminology when describing methods in formal reports.
