Pinoosilla

Pinoosilla is a rare and enigmatic species of small, nocturnal mammals found primarily in the dense forests of Southeast Asia. Belonging to the family Erinaceidae, which includes hedgehogs, pinoosillas are characterized by their unique appearance, with a long, slender snout and a body covered in coarse, spiny fur. They are also notable for their distinctive, echolocating calls, which are used to navigate their dark habitats.

Pinoosillas are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of insects, small vertebrates, and plant material. They are solitary animals, except during the breeding season, when males may form loose groups. The species is known for its elusive nature, making it difficult to study and observe in the wild.

Pinoosillas are currently listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, primarily due to habitat loss and fragmentation caused by deforestation and human encroachment.
