Periodontist
A periodontist is a dental specialist who focuses on the supporting structures of the teeth, including gums, bone, and connective tissue. They diagnose and treat periodontal diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis, and manage the placement, stabilization, and maintenance of dental implants. After earning a dental degree (DDS or DMD), periodontists complete additional specialized training in periodontics, typically three years, covering both surgical and nonsurgical techniques, diagnostic methods, and treatment planning. In some countries, advanced degrees or fellowships are common, and national board certification may be available.
