Perifériaemuláció, often translated as peripheral emulation, refers to the process of simulating the behavior of hardware devices, known as peripherals, within a software environment. This technique is commonly employed in various computing contexts, particularly in software development, testing, and virtual environments. Instead of relying on physical hardware, software acts as a stand-in, responding to commands and data as the actual peripheral would.

This emulation allows developers to create and test software that interacts with specific hardware without needing the physical components. For example, a developer might emulate a graphics card to test a new game engine or emulate a network interface card to simulate network conditions. This is invaluable for debugging, as it allows for controlled and reproducible testing scenarios that might be difficult or impossible to achieve with real hardware.

Furthermore, peripheral emulation plays a crucial role in virtual machines and emulators. Virtualization software emulates a complete hardware system, including various peripherals, allowing an operating system to run as if it were on dedicated hardware. Similarly, emulators for retro gaming consoles or older computer systems create software representations of the original hardware, including their unique peripherals, to run software designed for those platforms.
