Pelotherapy, also known as mud therapy or balneotherapy, is a form of physical therapy that utilizes natural mineral-rich mud, clay, or thermal waters for therapeutic purposes. This ancient practice has been employed for centuries across various cultures, including the Romans, Egyptians, and Native Americans, who recognized its healing properties. Modern medicine has since validated many of its benefits, integrating it into spa treatments, rehabilitation programs, and complementary healthcare approaches.

The primary mechanisms behind pelotherapy involve the thermal, mechanical, and chemical effects of mud and mineral-rich waters.
