Partslistas

Partslistas are structured inventories of components, materials, and subassemblies required to manufacture, assemble, or maintain a product or system. They serve as a central reference for procurement, production planning, inventory management, and maintenance.

Definition and scope: A partslista typically lists each item with key attributes such as part number, name or description, quantity per assembly, unit of measure, and supplier. Additional attributes may include cost, lead time, material or finish, and installation notes. In many contexts a partslista is part of or related to a bill of materials (BOM) and may be maintained in spreadsheets, databases, or ERP systems. Some organizations maintain single-level lists, while others use multi-level structures to show assemblies and subassemblies.

Formats and content: Common formats include spreadsheet tables or database records. Fields commonly present are item number, part number, description, quantity, unit, supplier, and revision. For electronics, reference designators (for example, R1 or C2) may be included to map items to a schematic or PCB layout. The list may also note whether an item is purchased or manufactured internally and may include notes about compatibility or replacement parts.

Uses and lifecycle: Partslistas are created during product design and engineering and are updated throughout the product life cycle to reflect changes in design or sourcing. They support purchasing decisions, material requirements planning, production workflows, inventory control, and maintenance activities. Accurate maintenance of a partslista helps reduce stockouts, overstock, and mispurchases and improves traceability.

Variations and terminology: In some industries the term BOM is used interchangeably with partslista, while others distinguish a hierarchical BOM from a flatter partslista. The exact terminology often depends on organizational practices and regional language.
