Paloilmoitin

Paloilmoitin is a Finnish term that generally refers to a device or system used to detect flame or fire signals and to alert people or automatic safety systems. In practice, the term is most often associated with flame detectors and related indicators within fire protection and safety installations.

Function and principles

Paloilmoitin devices monitor for indicators of flame, such as characteristic light or heat emissions. Common sensing methods include ultraviolet (UV) detectors, infrared (IR) detectors, or multi-spectral sensors that combine several channels to distinguish flame from background radiation. When a flame or abnormal heat pattern is detected, the device triggers an alarm and can transmit a signal to a central fire alarm panel, halt critical processes, or activate automatic fire suppression systems.
