Pakket

Pakket is a Dutch term that refers to a wrapped or boxed collection of goods intended for transport, delivery, or storage. In everyday use it denotes a parcel or package, typically larger than a small pakje. The term is common in logistics, retail, and mail services. It is also used in computing to mean a software package or collection of software components.

In logistics and postal services, a pakket is prepared for shipment with a label showing the recipient address, sender, weight, and a tracking code. Packages are processed by parcel services such as PostNL and international couriers; they can be domestic or cross-border. Tracking, insurance, and delivery options (home delivery, parcel shop, or pickup locker) are commonly offered.

Packaging materials range from cardboard boxes and bubble wrap to protective trays. Standards govern labeling, handling instructions, and security features. Packages may be subject to customs checks for international shipments, and liability provisions determine who bears loss or damage during transit.

In computing, a software pakket (software package) is a curated set of programs and libraries distributed together. Dutch technical terms include package managers, referred to as pakketbeheer, which install, update, and remove pakketten on a computer or device; examples include Linux package managers and language-specific ecosystems.

Environmental rules address packaging waste, recycling and minimization. EU and national policies encourage reuse and recycling of packaging materials; producers often bear responsibility for end-of-life packaging. The term pakket thus spans practical logistics, digital distribution, and policy contexts.
