PCIe is a general-purpose high-speed bus used to connect processors, GPUs, and other components, enabling data transfer between system elements. DisplayPort is a dedicated display interface used to carry video and audio from a GPU or display controller to a monitor. In typical desktop and laptop architectures, a discrete GPU outputs DisplayPort directly via a DP transmitter, and PCIe is used for control and data transfer between the CPU and GPU on separate paths. Similarly, DP Alt Mode on USB-C carries DisplayPort signals without creating a new PCIe-based display transport.
