Opportunivores

Opportunivores are a type of animal that exhibits a flexible feeding strategy, consuming whatever food sources are readily available. Unlike specialist feeders that rely on a narrow range of prey or plants, opportunivores exploit a wide variety of food items as they become accessible in their environment. This adaptability is a key survival trait, allowing them to thrive in diverse habitats and fluctuating conditions.

The diet of an opportunivore can include plants, insects, small vertebrates, carrion, and even human refuse. Their feeding behavior is often dictated by seasonal availability, the presence of other species, and environmental changes. For instance, an animal that primarily eats fruits might switch to insects or scavenge during periods when fruit is scarce.
