Nordtrans

Nordtrans is a multinational logistics and transportation company headquartered in Oslo, Norway. The company was founded in 1995 as a subsidiary of the Nordec Group, initially focusing on intermodal freight transport between the Nordic countries. In 2003 Nordtrans expanded its operations into maritime shipping by acquiring a fleet of Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) vessels that service routes between Scandinavia, the Baltics, and Western Europe. By 2010 the firm had diversified into rail freight, warehousing, and supply‑chain management, positioning itself as a comprehensive logistics provider.

Nordtrans operates a fleet of approximately 60 vessels, including RoRo ships, container carriers, and bulk carriers. The company’s maritime segment covers key routes such as Oslo–Gdańsk, Stockholm–Hamburg, and Aalborg–London. On land, Nordtrans runs a rail network that links major ports to inland distribution centres in Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Czech Republic. In addition to physical transport, the company offers digital logistics solutions, including real‑time tracking, automated booking systems, and data analytics for supply‑chain optimisation.

In 2018 Nordtrans entered the emerging market for battery storage logistics, acquiring a specialised subsidiary that handles the transportation and handling of large battery packs for electric vehicles. This move was part of a broader strategy to support the transition to greener transport modes. Nordtrans has also invested in sustainability, committing to a 30 % reduction in carbon emissions across its fleet by 2025 and phasing out older diesel‑powered vessels in favour of LNG‑fueled ships.

The company is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the ticker NTRANS and is governed by a Board of Directors chaired by CEO Lars Hjorth. It employs over 5,000 staff across more than 20 countries. Despite its growth, Nordtrans has faced regulatory scrutiny on environmental compliance in several European jurisdictions, prompting the company to adopt stricter emissions controls and audit procedures.
