Nonsharable

Nonsharable is an adjective describing something that cannot be shared with others or redistributed beyond specified recipients or conditions. The term is commonly used in digital rights, data governance, and contractual contexts to indicate restrictions on distribution, copying, or access. It is often contrasted with shareable or redistributable materials. Spelling variants include non-shareable and nonsharable; the latter is common in North American usage.

In digital contexts, nonsharable frequently appears in licensing and access controls. For example, a nonsharable link is a URL that enables access to a file only for the intended recipient and cannot be forwarded freely. Similarly, software licenses may be nonsharable, prohibiting installation on multiple devices or transfer to other users. Data protection and privacy regimes may describe personal information as nonsharable beyond a defined purpose or consent.

In content creation, publishers and platforms may label content as nonsharable to restrict reproduction or redistribution, sometimes enforced by technical measures such as digital rights management, access controls, or watermarking. In business and healthcare, nonsharable information—like confidential strategies or patient data—may be governed by non-disclosure agreements or privacy laws.

Limitations include enforcement difficulty across jurisdictions and the possibility of workarounds, such as capture through screenshots or sharing by participants. Consequently, the term is most often used in the context of policy, licensing, or security rather than inherent properties of the content.
