Netrunning, also known as cyberdecking, is a subgenre of science fiction that focuses on the activities of individuals who use computer technology to access and manipulate information in a virtual reality environment. The term "netrunning" was popularized by William Gibson in his 1984 novel "Neuromancer," which is considered a foundational work in the cyberpunk genre. In netrunning, individuals use specialized hardware called cyberdecks or neural interfaces to connect to the global information network, known as the Matrix.
