The nominal torque is the maximum torque that a device is designed to deliver under specified operating conditions, taking into account factors such as power supply, ambient temperature, and mechanical loading. It serves as a key parameter in the selection and specification of equipment for industrial and automotive applications.

The concept of Nennmoment is closely related to the idea of a nominal speed (Nennradzahl) and a nominal power (Nennleistung). Together, these values define the ideal, or design, operating point of a system. In practice, the actual torque experienced by a component may fluctuate around the nominal value.
