Nebulisaatoreid

Nebulisaatoreid are devices designed to deliver medication in inhaled form by converting liquid therapy solutions into a fine aerosol that can be breathed into the lungs. In Estonian usage, the term Nebulisaatoreid refers to plural nebulizers, with the singular being nebulisaator. They are used to treat respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis, and cystic fibrosis, especially when inhalation through a mouthpiece or face mask is advantageous for the patient.

Common types include compressor-driven jet nebulizers, ultrasonic nebulizers, and mesh nebulizers. Jet nebulizers use compressed air to break up the liquid into droplets, are generally inexpensive, and widely available. Ultrasonic nebulizers use high-frequency energy to produce aerosol and are quieter, but some medications may degrade under ultrasonic energy. Mesh nebulizers force liquid through a microscopic mesh to create uniform droplets and are compact, but often more expensive.

During use, the medication is placed in a small cup (the reservoir). The device is connected to power, and the patient inhales the aerosol through a mouthpiece or mask. It is usually recommended to take slow, deep breaths, occasionally with a breath hold to improve deposition in the lungs. Treatment time varies from about five to 15 minutes depending on the volume and device, and the choice of medication guides the duration.

Maintenance and safety: proper cleaning after each use is essential. Disassemble the unit, rinse with warm water, wash with mild soap if needed, and allow parts to air dry. Do not share mouthpieces or masks, and replace worn components and filters as advised by the manufacturer. Not all medicines are suitable for nebulization; follow healthcare guidance and medication labeling. Store devices and solutions in a dry place and keep out of reach of children.
