Naschtest

Naschtest is a German-language term that refers to a test performed through the nasal passages. In medical and laboratory contexts, naschtest commonly denotes nasal swab tests used to obtain specimens from the nostrils for diagnostic analysis. The most widespread use is the detection of respiratory pathogens, such as SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus, using nasal swabs from the anterior nares or, less often, the nasopharynx. Tests can be conducted as rapid antigen tests or molecular tests such as RT-PCR, and may be performed in clinical settings or as self-testing kits at home.

Procedure and safety considerations vary by test type but generally involve collecting a sample from the nostril with a swab and transferring it to a medium or assay. Some tests use nasal lavage or absorbent materials. Most individuals experience mild discomfort or a brief sensation of irritation; improper technique can increase the risk of inconclusive results or minor nosebleeds, particularly in children or people with nasal conditions.
