This allows NURBS surfaces to represent conic sections precisely, such as circles and ellipses, which cannot be perfectly represented by non-rational B-splines.

Control points are used to define the shape of a NURBS surface. By manipulating these control points, designers can intuitively sculpt and modify the surface. The influence of each control point is determined by a basis function, which is a polynomial.
