NFCModule

NFCModule is a compact hardware module that provides Near Field Communication (NFC) capabilities to embedded devices and consumer electronics. It typically combines an NFC controller, RF front end, antenna interface, and a software stack in a single package, and is designed to be connected to a host processor via standard digital interfaces such as SPI, I2C, or UART. NFC modules offer multiple operating modes, including reader/writer, card emulation, and peer-to-peer communication, enabling a broad range of use cases without requiring a full NFC subsystem in the host.

The module supports established NFC and contactless standards. It commonly implements NFC Forum specifications and ISO/IEC standards such as 14443 and 15693, and may support FeliCa depending on the product. It handles low-level radio control, anti-collision, and data framing, while delegating higher-level application logic to the host.

Security is a common consideration. Some modules include a secure element or a cryptographic co-processor to enable secure card emulation and payment-related operations, with options for host-card emulation isolation and secure key storage.

Developers integrate the NFCModule into devices via its interfaces, configure its operating mode, and implement the host software stack to manage tag interactions and transaction workflows.

Common applications include contactless payments, access control, transit and loyalty systems, asset tagging, and smart posters. When choosing a module, considerations include supported standards and modes, interface compatibility, power consumption, antenna design, physical form factor, and certification requirements.
