Murtumavaurio, or bone fracture, refers to a break or crack in one or more bones. These injuries can occur due to trauma, such as falls, vehicle accidents, or direct impacts, as well as from conditions that weaken bones, like osteoporosis. Fractures vary in severity, ranging from minor hairline cracks to complete breaks that may displace bone fragments.

Symptoms of a bone fracture typically include pain, swelling, bruising, deformity, and an inability to use the affected limb or body part normally. In severe cases, there may be an open wound where bone protrudes through the skin, known as an open or compound fracture, which carries a higher risk of infection.

Proper rehabilitation, including physical therapy, is often necessary to restore strength, mobility, and function. Complications from fractures can include improper healing, infection, blood clots, or long-term joint problems, particularly if treatment is delayed or inadequate.

Prevention strategies include maintaining bone health through adequate calcium and vitamin D intake, regular weight-bearing exercise, and avoiding risky behaviors like smoking or excessive alcohol consumption. Early medical attention is crucial for optimal recovery and to minimize long-term complications.
