Muawiya
Muawiya I, born around 602 CE, was the founder and first caliph of the Umayyad Caliphate, ruling from 661 until his death in 680. Originally a member of the Quraysh tribe in Mecca, he initially opposed the early Muslim community. However, after the conquest of Mecca, Muawiya converted to Islam and became a scribe for the Prophet Muhammad. He gained military experience under the Rashidun Caliphs, notably serving as governor of Syria.
