Nascent is an adjective describing something that is just coming into existence or beginning to display signs of future potential. It derives from Latin nascent- meaning “being born,” from the verb nasci “to be born.” The term entered English with a sense of newly formed or arising and is commonly used in formal and academic writing to characterize early stages of development.

In general usage, nascent refers to ideas, movements, industries, or technologies that are in their initial stage and show promise but are not yet fully formed.
