Montøren refers to a skilled tradesperson whose work centers on installing, assembling, and commissioning equipment and systems. In Norwegian and Danish usage, the term highlights hands-on mounting activities carried out on site or in workshop settings. The role spans many industries, including construction, manufacturing, energy, and services.

Typical duties include interpreting technical drawings and specifications, planning installation sequences, mounting components, wiring or piping connections, configuring systems, testing performance, and commissioning new installations. Montører may specialize in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, telecommunications, or industrial machinery. They work at customer premises, factories, construction sites, or shipyards, and are responsible for safety and quality during installation.

Training generally combines formal vocational education with on-the-job apprenticeship. In Norway and similar systems, aspiring montører earn a trades certificate (fagbrev) after completing a program and practical placement. Ongoing courses cover new equipment, safety standards, and digital tools used in project management or measurement.

Working conditions are often field-based and physically demanding, with travel between sites, varying hours, and exposure to weather. Montører use hand tools and power tools, measurement instruments, and PPE. The profession remains central to infrastructure, manufacturing, and renewable-energy projects, where reliable installation and service are essential.
