Modeláka

Modeláka is a colloquial noun used in Czech and Slovak contexts to describe a person who makes or collects scale models. The term is formed from the word model with an informal agent suffix, and it functions primarily in casual speech or online communities. In standard hobby terminology, a person who practices model making is usually called modelář (masculine) or modelářka (feminine). As such, modeláka tends to be regional or informal, often signaling a hobbyist rather than a professional.

Activities associated with modeláka include assembling plastic model kits, building dioramas, painting and weathering, and, in some cases, scratch-building parts or using 3D-printed components. The field encompasses various genres such as aviation, automotive, naval, architectural modeling, and model railroading, with enthusiasts frequently sharing techniques and finished work to improve accuracy and realism.

Community and culture: modeláka communities organize model shows, club meetings, online forums, and social media groups. They place emphasis on research, historical accuracy, and the sharing of tips and tutorials.
