Mittekootud

Mittekootud refers to a type of fabric that is not woven or knitted. Instead of interlacing warp and weft threads, non-woven fabrics are created by bonding or entangling fibers together. This process can involve mechanical, chemical, or thermal treatments. The fibers used can be natural, such as cotton or wool, or synthetic, like polyester or polypropylene.

The production methods for non-woven fabrics vary. Spunbond fabrics are made by extruding thermoplastic polymers, drawing them into filaments, and then laying them down in a random web. Meltblown fabrics involve extruding molten polymer through a die and then using high-velocity air to attenuate the filaments and deposit them in a self-bonding web. Needle-punched non-wovens are formed by passing barbed needles through the fiber web, entangling the fibers mechanically. Other methods include hydroentanglement, where high-pressure water jets entangle the fibers, and thermal bonding, where heat is used to fuse the fibers.

Non-woven fabrics possess a wide range of properties, including strength, absorbency, filtration capabilities, and breathability, depending on the fibers and manufacturing process used. These characteristics make them suitable for diverse applications. They are commonly found in disposable products such as baby diapers, sanitary napkins, wipes, and medical gowns, where their low cost and single-use nature are advantageous. In industrial settings, non-wovens are used for filtration media, geotextiles for civil engineering projects, and insulation materials. They also appear in consumer goods like reusable shopping bags and upholstery.
