Mitmekäigulised

Mitmekäigulised (also known as *polygynandrous* or *polygamous* species) refer to a mating system in which individuals form multiple pair bonds simultaneously, typically involving both males and females. This system contrasts with monogamy, where individuals form a single pair bond, or polygyny/polyandry, where one sex forms multiple bonds with the opposite sex.

In nature, mitmekäigulised relationships are most commonly observed in species where both sexes engage in multiple pairings over time. This can occur in seasonal breeding cycles, where individuals mate with multiple partners to maximize reproductive success. Some bird species, such as the African widowbird (*Euplectes progne*), exhibit this behavior, with males and females forming temporary bonds that overlap with other pairings.
