Missionskontrollcenter

Missionskontrollcenter, often abbreviated MCC, is a centralized facility dedicated to commanding, monitoring, and controlling space missions from launch to termination. It interfaces with spacecraft, ground networks, and mission planning teams to execute flight operations in real time. The MCC receives telemetry, processes data, and issues commands to the spacecraft, while maintaining communications with astronauts and ground teams.

A typical MCC houses flight controllers who monitor subsystems such as propulsion, attitude and orbit control, power, thermal, life support, communications, and payloads. A Flight Director leads the operations, supported by console operators and subsystem specialists. Display walls and computer consoles present trajectory data, spacecraft health, fault statuses, and mission timelines.

MCCs are usually part of a larger mission operations complex and connected to ground networks, simulators, and planning teams. During international or collaborative missions, MCCs coordinate with partner centers to share data, voice loops, and command sequences through standardized protocols.

Notable MCC facilities include NASA's Mission Control Center at Johnson Space Center in Houston, ESOC in Darmstadt (European Space Agency), and Russia's TsUP in Korolyov. These centers have supported crewed and uncrewed missions from the Apollo program to the International Space Station.

The concept emerged in the early days of human spaceflight, with mission control becoming central to operational success. Modern MCCs rely on redundant networks, advanced simulators, and decision-support tools to enable real-time control and rapid anomaly resolution.
