Minipatic

Minipatic is a compact, modular hardware platform designed for rapid prototyping of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The development kit was first released in 2015 by the Swedish company Innovatech Solutions, and it has since been adopted by hobbyists and engineering teams in sectors such as smart agriculture, industrial automation, and consumer electronics.

The core of the Minipatic platform is a 32‑bit ARM Cortex‑M series microcontroller that can be powered by either a standard USB supply or a rechargeable lithium‑ion battery. Its board includes a wide array of input/output (I/O) interfaces, including multiple UARTs, SPI, I²C, as well as a set of ADC channels and PWM outputs. A distinctive feature is the integrated real‑time clock and low‑power sleep mode, which help enable long‑term, battery‑operated deployments.

Minipatic software support is provided through an open‑source firmware library written in C. The library includes stack layers for wireless communication protocols such as MQTT and CoAP, as well as drivers for a selection of sensors and actuators. Users can develop firmware either by programming in a native application on an ARM development environment or by using a hosted web‑based IDE that simplifies integration with cloud services.

While the platform was originally aimed at prototyping, several commercial products now incorporate the Minipatic module in production since 2018. The company offers an annual subscription for firmware updates and security patches, and it has partnered with several cloud providers to offer pre‑configured deployment templates. Despite its niche origins, Minipatic has grown into a recognized building block for scalable IoT solutions.
