Migreen

Migreen is a term that appears in some sources as an alternative spelling of migraine or as a fictional designation for migraine-like headaches. In formal medical literature, the condition is usually called migraine, and Migreen is not recognized as a distinct disorder.

Clinical features of migraine typically include recurrent headaches that are moderate to severe, often unilateral and throbbing, lasting four to 72 hours. Nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light (photophobia) or sound (phonophobia) commonly accompany the pain. About half of sufferers experience an aura before or with some attacks.

Causes and risk factors are not fully understood but involve genetic susceptibility and environmental triggers. Common triggers include stress, sleep disruption, certain foods or caffeine, alcohol, hormonal changes, weather, and physical exertion.

Diagnosis is clinical, based on patient history and frequency and quality of attacks. Healthcare providers may use diagnostic criteria from the International Classification of Headache Disorders and, when indicated, rule out secondary causes with imaging or tests.

Treatment aims at both acute relief and prevention. Acute options include NSAIDs, acetaminophen, and triptans, sometimes with antiemetics. Preventive therapies for frequent attacks include CGRP monoclonal antibodies, certain beta-blockers, anticonvulsants, or antidepressants, along with lifestyle modifications such as regular sleep, hydration, exercise, and trigger management.

Prognosis and prevalence: Migraine is a common neurological disorder worldwide, with considerable impact on quality of life. When properly treated, many individuals experience fewer and less severe attacks. As a term, Migreen remains uncommon in clinical practice.
