Estimating maximum heart rate is commonly done using age-based formulas, the most popular being the Tanaka formula, which suggests subtracting one's age from 220 (220 - age). For example, a 30-year-old person would have an estimated maximum heart rate of 190 beats per minute. However, it's important to note that these formulas provide only an estimate, and actual maximum heart rate can vary significantly between individuals due to genetics, fitness level, and other factors.

A more accurate method for determining maximum heart rate is through a graded exercise test, often conducted in a clinical or laboratory setting under the supervision of a professional.
