Macrobreweries are large-scale beer production facilities associated with major multinational brewing companies. They produce and distribute huge volumes of beer across domestic and international markets, often operating dozens of facilities and maintaining extensive distribution networks. Production typically emphasizes efficiency, consistency, and cost control, employing automation, standardized recipes, and centralized logistics.

Most macrobreweries are owned by corporations such as Anheuser-Busch InBev, Heineken, Molson Coors, and Carlsberg Group. They manage extensive brand portfolios that include flagship lagers, regional ales, and non-beer beverages. They often rely on high-capacity plants, use of adjunct grains in some markets, and contract brewing or sourcing to meet demand. Marketing and sponsorship are integral to their strategies, with widespread retail presence and beer festival participation.

Critics argue macrobreweries can drive market consolidation, reduce diversity, and prioritize profitability over product experimentation. Environmental concerns include water usage, energy intensity, and waste streams. In many regions, macrobreweries coexist with smaller craft or regional brewers, which compete on flavor, locality, and innovation. Over time, large brewers have sometimes acquired or launched "craft" brands to broaden their portfolios, while preserving a perception of variety. The term macrobrewery is sometimes used descriptively but can carry pejorative implications within beer culture, reflecting tensions between scale and artisanal approaches.
