M0MO

M0MO is an indie music collective originating from Kyoto, Japan, founded in 2014 by vocalists Takashi Nakamura and Ayaka Saito. The group’s name, stylized as M0MO, reflects a combination of the letter “M,” a zero, and the mirror of “M,” symbolizing symmetry and cyclical motifs that appear throughout their music.

The duo initially gained recognition through self‑released demos shared on SoundCloud, which highlighted their blend of traditional Japanese instrumentation with electronic ambient textures. Influences cited by band members include the ambient works of Brian Eno, the experimental soundscapes of Ryuichi Sakamoto, and contemporary pop acts such as Chvrches. M0MO often features vocal harmonies paired with layered synthesizers and minimal drum programming.

Their debut studio album, *Kage no Uta*, was released in 2016 via indie label Harmonic Wave. The album reached number 42 on the Oricon Indies chart and received favorable reviews for its atmospheric sound. In 2019 they released the EP *Yoru to Hikari*, which included the single “Midnight Echo” that entered the Japan Hot 100 at position 68. The group has performed at several festivals, including the Fuji Rock Festival and the Tokyo International Music Showcase.

M0MO continues to produce music occasionally, with their most recent single “Echoes” issued in early 2024. They maintain an active presence on social media and frequently collaborate with visual artists for live installations. Existing documentation suggests the collective is exploring a multimedia project combining music, light, and motion graphics.
