LõunaAmeerikale, often referred to as "South America" in English, is a geographic and cultural region located in the Western Hemisphere, predominantly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean. The Isthmus of Panama connects it to North America. The continent is comprised of twelve sovereign states: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela, as well as one overseas territory, French Guiana.
