Lonists

Lonists are a fictional group often depicted in science fiction literature and media. The term "lonist" typically refers to individuals or a collective who choose to live in isolation or in small, self-sufficient communities, often deliberately separating themselves from larger societal structures or interstellar polities. Their motivations for such a lifestyle can vary widely, ranging from a desire for personal freedom and autonomy to philosophical beliefs about the corrupting influence of civilization, or even a need to escape persecution or conflict.

In some narratives, lonists are portrayed as hermits, survivalists, or pioneers establishing outposts on the fringes of explored space. They may possess advanced technological skills allowing them to maintain their independence, or they might embrace a more primitive, self-reliant existence. The degree of their isolation can also differ; some lonists maintain limited contact with the outside world for trade or information, while others are completely unreachable. Their interactions with more conventional societies are often characterized by caution, distrust, or occasional conflict, as their independent nature can be seen as a challenge to established authority or a threat to established order. The concept of lonism explores themes of individuality, the search for meaning outside societal norms, and the human desire for solitude or self-determination.
