The city is built on a raised plateau with white limestone towers that overlook the sea, and many districts are connected by stairways and causeways.

Historically, Lirnora arose as a mercantile port during the Age of Sail, founded by allied seafaring clans. It earned regional prominence after receiving a charter that granted a degree of self-government to merchants and shipwright guilds.
