The term is sometimes presented as a neologism or a misspelling of emoció, the Catalan word for emotion, or of emoción in Spanish, leading to ambiguity about its precise meaning.

Measurement in speculative contexts relies on self-report and physiological markers (heart rate, skin conductance, pupil dilation), but there is no standardized assessment.
