Leistungsbild

Leistungsbild is a standardized, structured description of the services to be provided by a contractor or consultant in a project. It defines the scope, content, sequence, quality requirements, deliverables, milestones, and interfaces with other disciplines, and serves as a basis for contracts and tendering.

In the German construction and engineering context the term is closely associated with the HOAI (Honorarordnung für Architekten und Ingenieure). The HOAI outlines service profiles, or Leistungsbilder, for different disciplines such as Objektplanung (building), Tragwerksplanung (structural engineering), Freianlagen (open spaces), and Technische Gebäudeausrüstung (technical building equipment). Each Leistungsbild includes the applicable Leistungsphasen (phases) and the tasks and deliverables expected in each phase, typically spanning planning, approval, execution, and project management.

Leistungsbilder are commonly used in procurement documents to solicit bids. A tender may present a Leistungsbild as a standardized template to ensure comparability across bids. The bidder then provides a project-specific Leistungsbeschreibung, detailing how its services will be carried out for the particular project. Thus, the Leistungsbild serves as a framework, while the Leistungsbeschreibung adds project-specific content and responsibilities.

The concept also appears in other German-speaking countries with similar purposes, though terminology may vary (for example, Leistungsprofil). Overall, Leistungsbilder aim to improve clarity, risk allocation, cost estimation, and quality control by providing a clear, standardized description of expected services and outcomes.
