Ledninger

Ledninger are conductors used to transmit electrical power or signals. They typically consist of a metal conductor, most commonly copper or aluminum, insulated and protected by a sheath. Ledninger are found in buildings, vehicles, industrial installations, and telecommunications networks.

They come in several forms: power cables for fixed installation and distribution, wiring conductors for internal circuits, and communications cables such as twisted-pair, coaxial, or fiber optic. Cables may be single-core or multi-core and are assembled with insulation (PVC, XLPE, or other polymers) and outer jackets; some cables include shielding or armor. Construction may vary with the intended voltage, environmental exposure, and mechanical requirements.

In practice, ledninger are installed in walls and ceilings within conduits, or laid underground in ducts or trenches for street and utility networks. Subtypes include low-voltage control and signaling cables, and medium- or high-voltage power cables used in substations, industrial plants, and feeder networks.

Design and installation follow electrical codes to ensure safety, insulation integrity, fire performance, and proper earthing. Color coding and markings aid identification; terminations and protective devices must be matched to the circuit. National and international standards, such as NEK 400 in Norway and IEC 60364 internationally, govern typical installations and quality requirements.

Maintenance involves periodic inspection for insulation wear, moisture ingress, or mechanical damage, as well as testing continuity and insulation resistance. Faults are addressed by replacing damaged sections or components and ensuring that protective devices and enclosures remain functional.
