Lagerstättensites
Lagerstättensites, in paleontology, refer to fossil-bearing deposits known as Lagerstätten (plural Lagerstätten), characterized by exceptional preservation or exceptional abundance of fossils. These sites provide unusually complete or detailed views of ancient life, including specimens with soft tissues, fine integuments, or delicate structures that are rarely preserved in typical fossil deposits.
Lagerstätten sites are commonly categorized into two broad classes. Preservation Lagerstätten (Konservations-Lagerstätten) yield soft-tissue preservation and
Conditions that foster Lagerstätten include rapid burial, anoxic or low-oxygen environments, fine-grained sediments, and favorable diagenetic
Notable Lagerstätten sites include the Burgess Shale (Canada, mid-Cambrian), renowned for soft-bodied arthropods; the Solnhofen Limestone
