Labelfolien

Labelfolien are thin plastic films used for labeling products and packaging. They are typically supplied as self-adhesive label stock, consisting of a printable film face, an adhesive layer, and a release liner. The film is chosen for clarity, chemical resistance, and compatibility with automated labeling processes.

Material options: PET (polyester) is the most common film substrate due to its clarity and durability; PP (polypropylene) is cheaper and more flexible; other substrates include PE and specialty films such as polyimide for high-temperature or harsh environments. Film thickness commonly ranges from about 12 to 60 microns, with the liner slightly thicker for ease of handling.

Printing and finishing: Printing methods such as flexography, offset, digital printing (inkjet or laser), and thermal transfer are used. Finishes include gloss or matte coatings, and optional protective laminates to improve abrasion resistance and moisture protection.

Adhesives and liners: Adhesives include permanent, removable, and repositionable types to address varying substrate compatibility and application conditions (temperature, moisture, exposure). The liner is typically siliconized paper or film and is removed during use.

Applications: Beverages, cosmetics, household products, pharmaceuticals, and logistics labeling are common sectors for Labelfolien. They are valued for high print quality, chemical and moisture resistance, and compatibility with automatic labeling equipment.

Environmental considerations: The recycling impact of label films depends on the label–substrate combination and local recycling streams. There is ongoing development of more recyclable label systems and bio-based or easier-to-remove labels to facilitate container recycling.
