Kõrgeimat

Kõrgeimat is a small populated place situated in Jõgeva County, in central Estonia. The settlement lies approximately 12 kilometres southeast of the county seat of Jõgeva and about 90 kilometres east of Tallinn, Estonia's capital. It is located on the western bank of the River Kalevínõmme, which flows through the surrounding lowland region. The area is primarily characterized by gently rolling plains, mixed forest, and agricultural land.

The first recorded mention of Kõrgeimat dates back to the early 15th century in medieval land registers of the Livonian Order. Historically, the locality served as a minor agricultural hub, with a focus on grain cultivation and sheep breeding. In the 19th century, a small railway halt was built as part of the Jõgeva–Suure-Jaani line, which helped to connect the settlement to larger markets. The station, however, was closed in the 1950s after the railway line was abandoned.

According to the 2011 Estonian census, Kõrgeimat had a resident population of 58 people, all living within the contiguous village limits. The demographic structure is relatively balanced, with a mix of family households and elderly residents. The population has remained small and stable over the past decades, reflecting the rural character of the region.

Kõrgeimat is part of the Kõrgeimat Parish within Jõgeva County, and it falls under the jurisdiction of the local municipal government. The community relies on nearby larger towns for services such as healthcare, education, and retail. Cultural life in Kõrgeimat is typical of small Estonian rural settlements, with local festivals often organized in cooperation with neighboring villages. The village has maintained traditional Estonian cultural practices, including folk music, dance, and seasonal celebrations.
