Kyllästämisessä refers to the process of impregnating materials, most commonly wood, with chemical preservatives. This treatment is applied to protect the material from decay, insect infestation, and fungal growth, thereby extending its service life and durability. The primary goal of kyllästämisessä is to prevent biological degradation, especially in applications where the material is exposed to moisture, soil, or other environmental factors conducive to deterioration.

The process typically involves placing the material in a sealed vessel, known as a treatment cylinder or autoclave. Air is then removed from the wood cells through a vacuum.
