Kunstlederüberzüge, also known as faux leather or artificial leather coatings, are materials designed to mimic the appearance and feel of real leather. They are typically made from fabrics like cotton, polyester, or nylon that are coated with a polymer, most commonly polyurethane (PU) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This coating is then often embossed or treated to replicate the texture and grain of natural leather.

The production process involves applying the polymer coating to the base fabric. For PU leather, the coating is flexible and breathable, often resulting in a softer feel. PVC leather, on the other hand, tends to be more durable and water-resistant but can be less breathable and may have a stiffer feel. Various techniques are used to achieve different aesthetic qualities, from smooth finishes to textured surfaces.

Kunstlederüberzüge are widely used in a variety of applications due to their cost-effectiveness, ease of maintenance, and availability in a broad range of colors and finishes. Common uses include upholstery for furniture and automotive interiors, fashion items like jackets, bags, and shoes, as well as accessories and decorative elements.
