Kumikupunäppäimistöiksi is a Finnish term that translates to "rubber dome keyboards." This refers to a common type of keyboard switch mechanism used in most consumer-grade keyboards. In a rubber dome keyboard, each keycap sits atop a rubber dome. When a key is pressed, the dome is compressed, pushing down on a small rubber or silicone pad. This pad then contacts a circuit board below, completing an electrical circuit and registering the keystroke.

The primary characteristic of rubber dome keyboards is their relatively soft and cushioned feel. The resistance of the dome provides tactile feedback to the user, indicating that a keypress has been registered. However, compared to other keyboard switch types, such as mechanical switches, rubber dome keyboards typically offer less distinct tactile feedback and a quieter operation.
