Kumeti is a traditional martial art originating from the Indian state of Kerala, with deep historical roots in the region’s warrior culture. The term "kumeti" is derived from the Malayalam word *kudumetti*, meaning "to fight" or "to wrestle," reflecting its emphasis on close-quarters combat and grappling techniques. Practiced primarily by the Nair community, kumeti was historically a key component of training for warriors known as *Kshatriyas*, who were expected to be skilled in both armed and unarmed combat.

The art focuses on a variety of techniques, including strikes, joint locks, throws, and ground fighting, often incorporating elements of wrestling and boxing.
