Kortikoszteroidinjekciók, often referred to as steroid injections, are a medical treatment that involves injecting corticosteroid medication directly into a specific area of the body. Corticosteroids are synthetic drugs that mimic the effects of cortisol, a hormone naturally produced by the adrenal glands. They are potent anti-inflammatory agents.

These injections are commonly used to treat a variety of inflammatory conditions and pain, particularly those affecting joints, muscles, and soft tissues. Examples include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, and carpal tunnel syndrome. The primary goal of a corticosteroid injection is to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain in the targeted area, thereby improving function and mobility.

The procedure is typically performed by a healthcare professional. After cleaning the skin, a local anesthetic may be used to numb the area before the corticosteroid is injected. The exact location and dosage of the injection depend on the condition being treated. While generally safe, potential side effects can occur, though they are often localized and temporary. These may include temporary pain or swelling at the injection site, thinning of the skin or subcutaneous tissue, and, rarely, infection or tendon rupture.
