Kinnastest is a standardized assessment framework used to quantify kinesthetic perception and related motor control abilities in humans. It is employed in clinical, research, and applied settings to provide objective measures of proprioception, tactile sensitivity, and motor coordination.

The kinnastest battery comprises multiple subtests covering proprioception (joint position sense, movement detection), tactile discrimination (textures, vibration thresholds), hand function (grip and precision grip tasks), and reaction and coordination tasks (reaction time to tactile cues, finger tapping sequences). The design aims to be age-appropriate and adaptable for neurological or musculoskeletal conditions.

Administration follows a standardized protocol: testing environment controlled for noise and distractions, calibrated equipment (goniometers, force sensors, haptic devices), and trained examiners. Scoring uses objective measures (degrees of error, milliseconds, force thresholds) converted to standardized scores and percentiles; a composite kinnastest score reflects overall kinesthetic function.

History: The kinnastest framework was developed by researchers in the Kinesthetics Research Consortium in the early 2020s to address the lack of a single comprehensive tool for kinesthetic assessment. It has since undergone multi-site validation and cross-cultural adaptation.

Applications and variants: Basic and professional versions exist, along with pediatric adaptations and digital platforms for remote assessment. In rehabilitation, kinnastest informs treatment planning for stroke, spinal cord injury, and peripheral neuropathies; in sports, it helps optimize performance and injury prevention; in ergonomics, it supports device design and workstation layout. Critics note potential learning effects and cultural bias in texture stimuli, highlighting the need for continued validation.
